Help and advice on buying property in Princes Risborough and the surrounding villages

The small country town of Princes Risborough lies between the Vale of Aylesbury and the Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the west of Buckinghamshire. Of prominence is the Whiteleaf Cross, a chalk hill carving visible for miles around. The central part of the town retains an old world charm and is designated as a Conservation Area.

The Chiltern Hills here command some fine panoramic views extending over the Thames into Berkshire, westwards to Oxford and northwest across the Midland shires. It is also a fantastic place to spot the Red Kites that are flourishing in this part of the Chilterns. The famous Ridgeway long-distance walking path is nearby.

Princes Risborough has a good number of shops including a supermarket, newsagents and a selection of independent retailers. Within the town itself are several pubs and restaurants including Indian, Italian and Chinese.

Of historic interest is the 17th century Manor House, formerly owned by the Rothschilds and now a National Trust property viewable by appointment. The impressive Market House is the focal point of the town. There is a church and near the churchyard is another 17th century, half-timbered house, now known as Monks Staithe, formerly the Vicarage and once occupied by the aviator, Amy Johnson.

There is a primary, secondary and independent school as well as various nurseries and pre-school facilities. Several parks and recreation grounds are maintained in the town, one of which, St Dunstan’s Park, contains a dovecote.

Princes Risborough is 9 miles south of the county town of Aylesbury, 21 miles from Oxford and London is only 38 miles away. The A4010 links the town with High Wycombe (9 miles away) and Aylesbury. Princes Risborough has its own railway station with trains running approximately twice hourly to London Marylebone and a journey time of 40-45 minutes.
